Have a Blog – Need an Agent?

by Lynnelle on August 11, 2009

Social Media Marketing is based on building an audience – a community of loyal, passionate fans. The engine is the platform; Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or a blog. The fuel is content.

Blog_XSmall The content might be text, photos, video or a combination of all. Content is king – Producers of quality are rockstars.

Jeremiah Owyang, with Forrester Research, had a great piece last week about professional Bloggers and the evolving trend of blogger-agents. His take-aways:

  • Bloggers to continue to make creating content a full-time position
  • Expect bloggers' agents to represent bloggers to brands
  • A new agency will be built, these blogger agents will make a living –but likely not get rich
  • More blog posts will have to indicate that they are sponsored
  • The FTC to continue to sniff this area, and put some rules in place to what this means

I find it very exciting to be working in this era of change. You may not think the fact that bloggers are going professional and blogger agencies are being born effects you, but it does, or will very soon. This evolution reminds me of something I saw on the National Geographic Channel. The disappearance of a single, tiny beetle can lead to the devastation of an entire forest. One instance starts a chain reaction of events; the domino effect.

Social media is changing the face of business. Social media is changing business – period.  You may not accept it yet, but don't wait too long. You'll find yourself left way behind.
